Deontay Wilder knocked out Dominic Breazeale in the first round of their heavyweight bout. On a positive note for Breazeale, he survived.
Wilder and Breazeale, two of the top heavyweight fighters in the world, have never liked each other. Fortunately for us, Wilder loves to talk about the hard feelings between them. Last week, Wilder decided to escalate the situation by implying that he intended to kill Breazeale in the ring. Wilder told Josh Peter of USA Today that he wouldn’t feel bad if he killed Breazeale, and he felt like he was within his rights to do so in the ring. Yes, you read that right. Wilder wanted to kill Breazeale. Wilder’s comments were met with plenty of backlash in and around the boxing world, but most believe it was simply a scare tactic. I think the majority of us can agree that we don’t want to see someone die in the ring, and Wilder probably went overboard with his comments.
Scare tactics aside, anyone who gets into the ring with Wilder should be afraid. He’s undefeated in his weight class and 39 of his 41 fights have ended in knockouts.
