Patrick Mahomes Will Be The Greatest Quarterback To Ever Play.

Have you heard that a hunch is creativity trying to tell you something? I remember watching Joe Montana and Brett Favre as a kid. Yes, we all know each player had stats and charisma that fans adored. But Super Bowl rings and MVP awards help cement quarterbacks in the greatest of all time talk. Along with Joe and Brett I always respected guys like John Elway, Tom Brady, Aaron Rodgers and thought… “what is it about these guys?”  There seems to be an aura around them that is sometimes indescribable. It’s very clear they have something that the next level quarterbacks do not.

Patrick Mahomes in 2018 had the best statistical year for a first year starting quarterback in NFL history including the infamous 50 touchdowns and over 5,000 passing yards. Mahomes and Peyton Manning are the only quarterbacks in the history of the NFL to do this. Mahomes led the Chiefs to the number one ranked offense in the league. He led them to a 12-4 record and the number one seed in the AFC with the 31st ranked Defense. He was announced the 2018 NFL MVP,  was named first team all pro, player of month, player of week and was top 3 in just about every leading quarterback statistic including total passing yards, passing yards per game, passing TD%, passer rating, and QBR to name a few…

What would it take for Mahomes to become the GOAT?

Patrick Mahomes will have to win 6 Super Bowls in Kansas City. Crazy right? I don’t think it is. Let’s look at several factors why Mahomes will eventually surpass Tom Brady.  Tom had to compete with numerous future hall of fame quarterbacks including Brees, Rodgers, Big Ben, and Phillip Rivers. I can’t name any hall of fame quarterbacks in their prime that Mahomes will have to compete with the next 10 years. Andrew Luck if he stays healthy is the only quarterback that could challenge Mahomes.

Brady won 3 Super bowls in his first 5 seasons in league. Then he didn’t win another until 10 years later in 2014. Looking at the current NFL landscape, I see competition much weaker specifically at the quarterback position for Mr. Mahomes than the competition Brady had to compete against.

Organizations desire to surround a hall of fame quarterback like Brady with talent is another key factor that will play a role. I think Kansas City has been waiting for a talent like Mahomes to do just this. The last time the Chiefs drafted a quarterback was in 1983 in the first round. 35 years later, they decided to move up in the draft to select Mahomes. The Chiefs now understand what they have and will do everything to protect this 23 year old phenom.

Yes Patrick Mahomes is only 23 years old; he has his entire career ahead of him and no one can truly know what will happen. Combining all those factors together with a gut feeling, any true NFL fan with knowledge and wisdom feels this kid is different. Let’s all sit back and enjoy this kid and everything he has to offer. Winning 6 Super Bowls in Kansas City is no easy feat. But you have to admit something seems special about MVPat. His intelligence, rare talent, and willingness to better himself might just be the key to those 6 Super Bowls.
